Profitable Marketing Strategies for Mississippi Soybeans

Investigators

Objectives

This research aims to determine the profitability of various soybean marketing strategies for Mississippi producers. Both routine and systematic market strategies used, either pre-harvest or post-harvest, will be examined. Routine strategies are those in which soybeans are marketed yearly on a set schedule with pre-determined marketing tools regardless of market conditions. Systematic strategies allow for year-to-year variation in the timing of sales and market tools based on market information.

Expected End Results

This research will be valuable to Mississippi soybean producers by providing information on the profitability of marketing strategies and recommendations on what strategies work given certain market conditions. Marketing can often be daunting for many producers as emotions can indirectly drive decision-making. This research will provide concrete information producers can use to combat emotional marketing decisions. A better understanding of marketing strategies, specifically in Mississippi, will lead to more efficient marketing recommendations and increased farm profitability.
